Jean-Pierre Yvon registers the trademark in Japan and proposes the distribution of his umbrellas to a few groupes. A Japan manufacturer then proposes to buy the license against royalties. He decides to control the production of the "Véritable Cherbourg" and prefers that it is manufactured in the place of its designation origin.

Birth of the Cherbourg umbrella factory
Jean-Pierre Yvon takes the plunge and his dream is beginning to take shape i.e. to setup a factory in Cherbourg to manufacture a range of the genuine Cherbourg umbrellas.
The Manufacture of Parapluies de Cherbourg (SARL MAPACHE) is born.
He selects and makes up his team of manufacturing people by hiving seven workers. Above all, he gets the message of quality across. Efforts are made towards research, innovations and development.
